High Power Rifle Practice - Fox Farm Road
Last chance to shoot and establish rifle zeroes before Camp Perry National Matches
July 31, 2004
I was late on arrival to take this cool late sunrise photo of Lake Superior. This was a manual exposure of f/22 and 125th of a second shutter speed. Look at the lake surface differences!
Kristof and Steve. Kristof is preparing to fire at the 600 yard target. This is shot from 250mm focal length on a lens, which makes the target look rather close. Picture a REALLY long Par 5.
Kristof preparing to fire at the 600 yard target. There is deception of true distance again, as this is shot from 50 feet behind on a long lens.
Kristof loading a clip of 8 rounds into the M1 Garand.
Steve and Kristof. Steve is manning my spotting scope with my new Freeland Scope Stand. Kristof getting on target. I shot three photos as he fired, trying to get a photo of a brass case being ejected, but it just goes too quick.
Toivo relaxing between shots and not spotting vapor trails. During the morning, the humidity changed and made it easier to see bullet vapor trails later in the morning. Steve slinging up with the M1 Garand. Steve mentioned that he bought the largest size Creedmor Shooting Coat that Creedmor Shooting Supply actually made. He is a big dude.
Steve loading her up... In proper form to avoid "Garand Thumb" if the bolt closes early.
Steve getting on target at 600 yards. Note the sightline from his eye, through his glasses, through the aperture sights. It looks high... Kristof spotting. We couldn't see bullet hits at 600 yards, but we could see bullet vapor trails and/or splashes behind the target to call shots.
Tony laughing at something Kristof said while shooting... Tony and Kristof, debating some form of shooting or something. Note the subtle ripples in the light gravel in front of the muzzle of the rifle from the multiple blast waves.

The countdown to Camp Perry starts getting close!

Less than 90 hours from this shooting session!

Steve getting on target with the Springfield 1903A3 at 200 yards.
